L1 Terminal Fault (L1TF)--also known as Foreshadow--is a security vulnerability that allows unauthorized users to access information from Intel processor based servers including deployments in cloud environments. This vulnerability takes advantage of the way Intel processors handle page tables (the maps that translate between physical and virtual memory resources). Like Spectre and Meltdown in early 2018, L1TF allows unauthorized users to access data from speculative operations. What makes L1TF even more dangerous is that malicious users can steal secrets across multi-tenant cloud environments. This 3-minute video provides a high-level primer on what L1TF is and how it works.
