Which came first: the culture or the technology? Many companies are facing this Catch 22 as they modernize to better meet customer demands. It doesn’t have to be one before the other—actually, they should kind of go hand in hand.

This month our customer success spotlights, which span from Europe to Southeast Asia, demonstrate how Red Hat helps customers focus on two critical components of success: helping their people learn new skills and implementing new technology. Let’s see how Red Hat OpenShift and Online Partner Enablement Network have helped customers and partners modernize their environments to keep up with growing market demands.

Taking Red Hat OpenShift to the edge

Since being established in 1969, Samsung Electronics has grown into one of the world’s leading technology companies. To respond to a growing demand for devices with greater processing power and support the introduction of 5G, Samsung Electronics created a consistent hybrid cloud environment using Linux container platform and storage solutions from Red Hat.

Samsung and Red Hat have been collaborating to deliver network and edge solutions built on Red Hat OpenShift. This OpenShift-based infrastructure supports Samsung’s fit-for-purpose mobile devices, containerized network—including core and radio access network (RAN)—edge management, and AI solutions, designed to help businesses take advantage of 5G.

“We’re excited to be working with Red Hat and IBM to reimagine edge computing, 5G, and hybrid cloud solutions,” said K.C. Choi, Corporate EV/Head of Group, Global Mobile B2B Team,

Samsung Electronics. With this new infrastructure, the company reports that its accelerating delivery of solutions for networks and edge processing in a distributed cloud architecture.

Samsung Electronics has created a technology foundation to establish collaboration centers in Dallas, Texas and Suwon, South Korea for developing, testing, and benchmarking private networks and real-world Industry 4.0 use cases. Pioneering container technology in Vietnam

With 19 million customers, VPBank is one of Vietnam’s leading commercial banks. A key aspect to achieving its vision of becoming the country’s most consumer-friendly and technology-driven bank is to expand its partner ecosystem using open banking application programming interfaces (APIs).

After initially creating a centralized partner integration hub to host an easy-to-use API catalog, VPBank faced technical limitations and pressure to improve time to market to keep pace with business demands. As a result, the bank decided to build a microservices-based IT architecture.

VPBank shifted from OKD, a community distribution of Kubernetes, to Red Hat OpenShift as the foundation of a new digital architecture for its open banking API environment.

“We moved to Red Hat’s supported OpenShift solution for enhanced security and vendor support,” said Luong Cong Thanh, Integration & Microservices Director, VPBank. “Red Hat has strong credibility in the market, giving confidence that we would get the implementation right.”

To move quickly, VPBank worked with Red Hat Consulting to help plan and deliver the project. This engagement included expert guidance and best practices for success with Red Hat OpenShift and microservices.

VPBank is the first bank in Vietnam to adopt Red Hat OpenShift. It now has 55 applications exposed to 646 service and operational APIs, including those that integrate 13 e-wallet partners. Its OpenShift-based platform processes more than 10 million transactions per day.

With automated processes and more efficient developer workflows, VPBank has eliminated the need for a dedicated service for each partner. New partners can now be integrated in two days, rather than months, using open banking APIs—and with minimal resources and time invested. Counting on Red Hat for dynamic learning opportunities

VIADA is one of Germany’s leading IT service providers and a Red Hat partner. We recently chatted with VIADA CEO Daniel Braunsdorf about how the company improves service effectiveness with focus on culture.

Braunsdorf says VIADA has addressed the skills shortage concern facing many companies by placing an emphasis on its onboarding process. “When people are spending more time working remotely, it’s important the recruits understand the culture of the business and that they develop the right attitude.”

According to Braunsdorf, Red Hat remains a fundamental part of VIADA’s enablement and training strategy. In 2019, the company used Red Hat Online Partner Enablement Network (OPEN) to help its customers solve complex IT challenges.

“We continue to rely on Red Hat OPEN—all new hires are required to use it, and the continued training of our existing team depends on it,” says Braunsdorf. “What I think has changed is that we are now a lot more precise in how we use Red Hat OPEN. We know we have access to any topic we require—whether Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, Red Hat Fuse, or Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform—and that the access is flexible.”
