Fastweb provides cloud-based telecommunication and ICT services, including public and private cloud, virtual desktop, backup, email-as-a-service and storage-as-a-service, to businesses of all sizes as well as its own internal teams. Aiming to optimise the user experience around accessing and scaling services as well as be able to more quickly roll out new services, Fastweb field-tested solutions for managing its entire cloud infrastructure, which is built on a variety of technologies, including Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Virtualization.

Fastweb selected and deployed Red Hat CloudForms for its ability to unify management and operations of a hybrid environment as well as for its native integration with Red Hat OpenStack Platform, which minimises the training needed for its IT teams. Now, Fastweb can provision and deliver unified services to its customers on their customers’ infrastructure of choice. In tandem, Fastweb has deployed Red Hat Ceph Storage, Red Hat’s massively scalable software-defined storage platform, to help it to more quickly meet its customers’ requests for flexible, always-available cloud storage, and reduce its storage-related costs.

With its flexible platform for managing and scaling hybrid cloud services, Fastweb has boosted its ability to deliver new innovations to customers faster. Specifically, enterprise customers can now adopt and deploy OpenStack-based private IaaS services  in a timeframe comparable with public cloud solutions (15 days compared to six - nine months), with continuous updates, thanks to the high degree of automation provided by Red Hat technologies. Fastweb customers can thus launch business applications more quickly, benefitting from simplified access and management of IT resources.

Using the Red Hat CloudForms self-service portal, Fastweb customers can more quickly and easily choose the services they need and fine-tune and personalise them in real time.  Both Fastweb and its customers can gain a streamlined user experience, greater agility and reduced management burden and cost.
