Last year was an exciting year for Red Hat, filled with new and expanded collaborations, product innovations, community engagement and leading the spread of open source throughout tech and into other industries. In recognition of this growth in our leadership, Fortune has named Red Hat to its list of the Most Admired Companies for 2018.

We are ranked fourth within the computer software category. This is our first time on the list and the first time we were invited to participate in the voting, which we believe is a testament to the growing influence of open source.

Open source is the driving force behind much of the technology innovation we see and more industries are realizing the power of user participation and collaboration. In addition to our business success, our open approach to everything we do and creating a culture of meritocracy, collaboration, transparency, connection and trust, are resonating across many industries.

Fortune describes the Most Admired Companies list, published since 1983, as “the definitive report card on corporate reputations.” To compile the list, Fortune partnered with Korn Ferry Hay Group, a global management consulting group. Beginning with a roster of more than 1,500 organizations, the pool was narrowed to the highest-revenue companies in 52 industries, 680 in 29 countries. From there, executives and directors from the top-rated companies in that group, along with industry analysts, were invited to rate enterprises in their own industry. Enterprises were rated on nine criteria, including investment value, quality of management, products, social responsibility and ability to attract talent. A company’s score must rank in the top half of its industry survey to be listed.

We’re honored to be included on the list and excited to be listed alongside prestigious companies, many of which are customers and partners. Above all, we are proud of the tremendous commitment that our associates show every day to both Red Hat and the open source community, this recognition is a direct result of their efforts.
